Curiosity has the better of me and I have got to ask are those pictures over towards Windy pass the last one looks like it is windy basin
Not that I know of. I don't know of a windy pass in the paseyten.

Well the Windy Pass I am thinking about is out of Harts Pass,  on what is locally referred to as the West Fork Trail.  You travel out through Oregon pass and Oregon basin to Windy Pass and Windy Basin You then go by Tamarack Peak and then the Devils Back Bone to Holman Peak and Holman Creek, which is kind of a junction for the West Fork and the Middle fork trails.

The pictures are taken from devils park between crater mountain and jakita ridge.
Grueling hike in. No animals so i haven't been  back. Some of the most beautiful alpine territory.  The pis are from a phone.  They don't show the color or perspective at all.

You are right, it was Sunny Pass I was thinking of and the Windy Trail is right there.

Here's your GPS coordinates I would hunt if I had a young group of guys to hunt with.

Never been there but always have thought it would have some nice bucks, go check it out and let us all know how you do.  :hello:

48.823203, -120.245500

I looked up those coordinates and they took me to the Ephrata Wal-Mart parking lot...

Jackofalltrades,  was that last lake photo of Fawn Lake?

Sooperfly knows that that pond is not Fawn Lake.

Ya, I looked at my pictures of Fawn and can see it's different.  There are so many lakes in the Pasayten where burnt trees line the shores.  It also looks like it could be taken close to the south end of Black Lake looking south.

Scenery from some of my hikes in...

It's not all 'about the hunt'.  Hiking in the summer is different than the fall. Being there during a storm.. That's an experience. Remember that in any alpine area the weather can change at a moments notice.  Some say that the Pasayten creates it's own weather.  Believe it! Go prepared.

I thought that pond looked familiar!    ;)

September 2004

I know that area very well, been hiking and hunting in there for years.  A very special place.  My wife and I watched a herd of elk put on a great show in that pond/meadow.

I've done this hunt a handful of times. It is one that I look forward to every year. Work prevents me from going on occasion. The part about this hunt I really like, besides how beautiful it is, is that there are endless possibilities on where to hunt. Every year I spend hours planning on exploring/hunting a new area. I was told that if you look at this hunt as a fun camping/hiking trip with the possibility of shooting a decent buck then you will never be disappointed. So far that has been my experience. Some years I get a buck. Some years I don't but I always have a great time.
As you can see by the pictures it is a beautiful place. As far as where to hunt your going to have to spend some time researching/planning and hunting it. My first year there I put on 43 miles in three days and was lucky enough to find a nice 3 point. Be prepared to hike a lot. Bring good glass. Clothes for all kinds of weather. And don't get discouraged by how many people you see at the trail head. It's a big area and still lots of places to hunt where I didn't see anyone. Good luck

Just got back from 4 days, 3 nights backpack hunting the pasayten for the hunt buck hunt, also looking for bear.  I entered via buckskin ridge at harts pass and only went in to the silver lake area about 4 miles, saw alot of orange, no deer/bear yet it was a blast, beautiful country!  totally worth the trip....
next I traveled east to buck lake to hunt with my bow, tons of deer including 4 dead ones at camp yet none mine!

i'll post pictures later

Got back last night, after being gone from home only 24 hours, from a planned 3day backpack hunt. When I got to the trailhead ready to head out, I discovered my camelback bladder had leaked about a liter of water out during the car ride up. Seemed my sleeping bag soaked up about 90% of that water and needless to say, it was soaked through and unusable. I ended up hiking in for the day, hoping to get lucky, and came home last night, after seeing three deer, all doe. Talk about a bummer of a trip. Oh well, the high buck hunt will have to wait until next year....  :(
