Rocky Mt or Desert Bighorn?
« on: February 28, 2015, 08:39:26 PM »
I have always been curious on what everyone's opinions are on this. I personally would pick Rocky Mt just because I like their looks better for some reason. What do you say? Or would you even care which?

Rocky is my number one choice of any animal in the world. Love them.

The two sheep shown are not the same class animal. Take a look at some of the giant dessert rams out there and it's a tougher choice. That being said....dall

Desert is a much harder tag and hunting opportunity.  So if I was allowed to pick one guaranteed it would have to be Desert.  If I had to pick a favorite that would be difficult.  Probably would be Rocky Mtn.  Though I'd rather tag a big Stone than either of those two.  Had to cancel my Stone trip for this year due to all the broadhead supply chain poop.  Not sure when I will have another chance.  But, maybe one of these days :dunno:

I'm with you RadSav.  A good stone sheep hunt would be top pick over pretty much anything else.  Throw a Mt.Caribou, Moose and Goat in for good measure.  Oh yeah, a Grizz too.   Thats's a bummer you had to miss out on your hunt...

Rocky, however if you put up a real mature old desert ram, that is one cool critter to have lived a long life in an environment that they do.

^ this. most of the photos of desert bighorn I've seen are youngins. That led me to believe they don't get big. There are two huge toads at the taxidermist where I had my elk done and all I can say is  :yike:

Shoulda taken a few phone pics  :sry:

They translocated some to the Santa Catalina's, Rad. They've made two transplants of 30 from the Yuma area IIRC. You shoulda seen the Pinkotards go bat-crap when game and fish had to sharpshoot several mountain lions.  :chuckle: Lions killed a dozen or more of the sheep  :bash:
