Anyone else notice the birds shutting down today?
« on: April 17, 2015, 03:23:22 PM »
The birds have been pretty hot for over a month or so. Last night they roasted in a different roost and went a totally different direction. Not a lot of gobbling. Can't beg a gobble today. I have been watching the  barometric pressure when the birds were hot and not. Rising or lowering quites them down.
The barometric pressure was dropping last night and today, the only gobbles last night was after fly up. Yesterday morning they were real hot. BTW, these birds haven't been messed with at all. So hunting pressure is out the door. Maybe nesting is in full swing and the hens are taking the Toms out of their nesting grounds. I know toms will bust up a nest so they can keep breeding the hens.  :dunno:

Hell yes. Good early but they went mute the rest of the day.  The only ones we heard talking later were the ones we shot up the days before.  Called in 5 screaming jakes around noon whom obviously found their voice after I killed their poppa.

I know you are being funny. I've hunted this area for 25 years for turkeys longer for deer. I seems that every year they shut up sometime during the first week. I'm blessed to have turkeys all around me and am able to watch them every day. Last year was the first year I started to pay more attention to their gobbling and the weather. I had a new phone that has a Barometer, it sures looks like when its jumping up and down or a pressure rising/lowering sharply they shut up. Hens too. Not one gobble this morning and the pressure is rising sharply. I could be full of it, but I have never really kept track of them like I have the past 2 years. Could be the moon phase thing.

I refer turkeys to being like elk a lot. Maybe figure out there menstral cycle and egg dropping and develop an APP then we will have them dialed in.

Just read my last post. Wow, not sure what happened. Should have said, heard a couple of very distant gobbles but that was it.
