timber company bear feeders
« on: May 15, 2015, 07:31:00 PM »
I was doing some bear/deer scouting last night and came across a feeder that was getting pounded by bears. I reported it to fish and game and they said it was a feeder that the timber companies put out for bears to help minimize damage to trees from peeling. Has anybody ever came across one of these and if so would it be legal to hunt that area if the state oks it? Never saw so much bear sign in such a small area.

It's a Monroe unit area. I don't have a spring tag but may visit the area with a chain come August.

they'll stop feeding them around the end of june. other food starts growing, the feeders get empty and the bears move on well before the season opens. i know of like 5 i could drive to right now. i like to put cameras up around them, some hogs hit those feeders during spring. if you do put a camera up hide it well. the timber company usually pull them down. liability, they dont want you around the feeders

I found some in Monroe unit last year too. Timber company's. Actually, it was right along a road where I see hikers all the time...kind of funny they didn't post any signs at the gate or when you got close that you were walking right into a feed station.
