ok shrimper pm me to please.  I had a crawdad trap that i could not get anything.  If you could give me some pointers that would be great.

When i was a kid used to go out and we would catch them by had.  turn over the rocks real slow a grab them.   back would not allow that now...  would get a couple of 5 gal buckets half full...  good eating.

Set your traps right where you used to get them by hand, it's way easier.

PM inbound!

Any pics of homemade traps? I love catching those with my boys but we typically snorkel for them. We have tried trapping them and have used bacon, chicken liver, fish and chicken as baits. Any other suggestions for bait? Thanks.

Ok...I'm in the game folks. I went out to a super secret end of a lake that may be called Cassidy...the spot I wanted to fish is now being developed...granted the house going up looks pretty darned amazing but no go! So I road hunted, drove around, spotted a nice little patch of grass with a small dock and no trespassing, took a shot and knocked on a door, was thanked for asking, got told no, shook hands, and back on the road. Found a ditch creek that looked promising if I wasn't in flip flops, moved on. Ended up dropping a pot just for kicks off a another secret location....okay it is at Lake Stevens. I'll check it this evening and see what I have going. Regardless...I'm fishing.

I use salmon heads I buy at the grocery store. I usually get a couple for a $1-$2. I chop them up and put in my bait boxes.

Make sure your bait is fresh; if it is at all turned it will not work as well.  Crawdads prefer live food "fish" if they can catch it and it goes down from there.  I would stick with whole fresh fish parts, which would be your best bet for bait.

I'm looking forward to soaking some pots this year too. Was skunked on my first outing dropping pots into Lake Kapowsin, but it wasn't an ideal time (day, not overnight). Looking forward to hitting some spots in Eastern, WA as well as trying Mineral later this year.

Did you get any?

I have a spot that might be right up your alley with "the boy".

The shad are coming over Boniville in good numbers. There are some members that will give you shad for bait if you ask them nicely...  Good luck to all Crawfisher's!  Be safe and don't forget your life vest. Crawfishing is a very dangerous sport. Good looking first pots Schrimper!
