You might want to check with the locals outside of IEP tracts.  Moose cause a fair amount of trouble with gardens, pets, walkers (as in knocked to the ground and stomped, no deaths that I am aware of yet but it is likely) and fences.  Removal of offenders without the cost of WDFW involvement is a positive.

I would love to hear some more about access from the west, directly or DNR land, OR any info about local land owners if anyone cares to share :}

Thanks!

You been down there lately Chris? They logged the hell out of the area around the gate to the first split.

I hiked in there a few times this winter/spring. There are moose to be seen, just need to get higher than the logging.

Private is only 1/4 mile past the gate. One confusing thing is a big road was added that ys off to the left of the public access. Dont take this as it only leads to other private. Stay right (straight) and its a short walk to the public land. A gps with onxmaps will help a ton.

I'm thinking Huntnnw has all the info needed but I just wanted to bump this for my cousin for any other info about the hunt, places to camp, permits needed and other info.  Brian is a great guy and very respectful, I would love to see him succeed on this hunt.  Hope I can be there.

Thanks for bumping it up Jerry. I think Brian has or is in contact with HuntNW. I have not had a chance to discuss it with him. We are planning now on going over on Nov 14th. I was thinking the Weller Road Idaho side may be better this time. I don't know if there is any camping spots over there? I think it it like a half mile walk from the Gate or entrance to the Washington Mica side?

Any info on this plan would be helpful.

Thanks

Brianb

No camping on weller rd...the first spur road is about a mile, but pretty flat walking to WA the upper spur road is closer to 1/2 mi to WA and also flat walking. Some have been camping on star road down the road on the DNR

Go up Starr Rd on the WA side.  At the gate turn right and go down about a half mile.  There is a gated road on the right with a nice place to camp.  If that is taken go where I ended up going.  past that and found a spot on the road where I backed my 32 ft trailer in and parked my horse trailer and 2 trucks.  Rode to the gate and headed up.  Take the road to the right past the second set of guard rails.  Down there about a mile is a fork going up.  Take that til it opens up.  Sit down and wait all day.  Worked for me. :IBCOOL:
