Mason family rabbits
« on: June 25, 2015, 04:43:39 AM »
Decided this year to get a couple rabbits to raise and so far we have had a blast with them. Its and easy way for me and my daughter to spend some time. We can spend hours in the pen with them at a time. I am bored and figured I would show some of our pictures.

Ummm tastety .

Raised rabbits as a kid. Infact my mom took orders and I would butcher them after school. And folks would pick them up at our front door. Back in the 60s.

Are they kept in a colony?
Do you know the breed? Look like either Satin or Havana.
Rabbits are fun and yummy.

I am not a hundred percent positive the breed, girl told me meat bred rabbit. We do have a couple flemishes in there too.
We keep ours in a colony, the stuff I read said it's easier to keep them that way. We got ours to have a another source of meat for the family. Plus it's a good prepper food.

Cool. What is "colony""style? One big fenced in pen?

One big fenced in pen with underground tunnels and holes.

One big fenced in pen with underground tunnels and holes.

And sometimes they decide to "vent" those tunnels with an escape hole outside the friggin' pen.   >:(

We have been super lucky, so far no escapes. We lined the floor with fencing. But underneath is far game for them.
