So, wondering what kind of food he supplies?  Three meals a day?  Tent?  Packing?

Cool. If their that damned mean, why not?😀  Up in gum 601, supposedly a smallish herd of some type of beef critters. Was told basically same thing: wild as an elk.

There was a wild one in 603 last fall.  It would jump fences and come eat the feed set for the tame herds.  It was cagy and would sneak into gardens when it heard peoples cars leave to go to work.  It would watch people and take off if they got too close.  It knew the sight of a rifle wasn't a good thing, but couldn't out run it.

I watched a hunt in Australia where they were hunting wild cows and they were as spooky as hunting elk

Years ago there used to be wild/feral cows in Willapa Valley. Some of the old timers tell me stories about hunting them. They said they were jumpier then elk and faster than you would think. They say they are actually pretty tough to hunt. The hunting was made tougher by where they lived. In a roadless expanse of timber with a brushy under story. Sounds like a bovine version of wild/feral pigs to me.

I hunted wild cattle in Australia, there were quite a few of them, old bulls that had gone wild, they were far more cagey than the water buffalo, wild hogs, or some of the deer that we hunted there. The remote country in the northern territories is huge, lots of old bulls that have escaped roundups and after a few years they don't even try to round them up because they are too hard to handle and tear up things! I eventually got one, he didn't have very good horns and he wasn't the easiest critter to get, but I at least got one. Out of 4 of us hunting I killed the only one on that trip. On a more recent trip the guy who went with me killed a world record bull with his bow, it had 45ish" wide horns, must have weighted a ton. That thing was huge!  :yike:

This deal in Washington sounds fishy to me, I've never heard of any cattle rancher here that just donates his cattle to nature. My guess is maybe there is one or two strays that actually belong to someone who either owns the land or leases grazing if it's on public land. All public land grazing areas are leased by someone! One way or another the cattle belong to someone! I highly doubt this is the same situation as Australia!

I can't remember if cattle rustling is still a hanging offense in Washinton, it is in some state. At the very least cattle rustling is a very serious offense!  :twocents:

If anyone gets more info on this I'd be interested in finding out.

A friend and I called yesterday and this is a legit hunt. Lummi Native Tribe owns portage island just out of Bellingham its about 5 Sqmi they  have 10 cows left on the island and they wants them gone. The guy offering the trip was asked to help get the cows off as they are aggressive and dangerous. He takes you out there for the weekend take a cow if you can but no guarantee. Its $500 a person not per cow.

He is booked up for the next two weekends and my friend is seriously wanting to do this I would but its my sons birthday and I don't think the wife will let it happen. Also he said their is no firearm restriction but they prefer you use shotgun with slug or a bow.

If you google portage island their are pics of some of the cows that are out there.

Those cows have been out there for many years.  I used to work out there and would see them in the clearings from time to time.  The island is small and one should be able to cover it in a few hrs.  Be careful if you try to drive across to the island during low tide.  Seen many trucks get stuck and end up 6ft under.
