AKC Gun Dog Nationals back at Ames
« on: August 26, 2015, 04:44:26 PM »
The 2016 AKC all breed pointing dog National Championship will be held at Ames Plantation again in 2016.  The entry will be limited to 120 dogs.  Ames is hollowed grounds in the trial world as it's the place where they have been holding the American Field Nationals since the early 1900's.  In other words, it's the trial grounds of THE Nationals!

Due to other financial obligations My dog was probably going to skip the spring trial season, but if the schedule works out and my trainer goes, I may have to try and run her through the AKC Nationals.  I really hope I get to go ride those grounds again. It takes a hell of a dog to get around Ames with good bird work.

Where's Ames at?  If there are any of these locally, I'd be interested in going to watch one.

Just outside Memphis, TN.  The highest honor there is in the pointing dog world is to see your dog on the "steps" of Ames (that's where they take the winning dogs photo) Interestingly enough, they didn't put the AKC's winner on the steps the only other time they held the AKC Nationals at Ames.  I think there is a reason for that.

That's because it's reserved for FDSB registered Pointers.   ;)
