Sorry about the title thought throwing the ! in there was good enough my bad.  I don't think its cat there where 3 piles about 150yards apart on the shoulder of the road. each a little different in size and consistency.

Some tracks would help.

Interesting find. Without tracks very hard to say what species.

What ever it was though had most likely fed on a discarded elk hide.  Lots of hair, little organic matter, and no bone or cartridge.  Size eliminates coyotes and I've never found cougar scat that large.   It's the right size to have been from a small to medium size black bear.   Though it's hard to imagine bear scat this time of year that wouldn't still have at least some berries in it.  It could be a large canine.  Not saying it's a wolf.

If you're up there again soon, collect the it, put it in a plastic baggy and freeze.  Call WDFW and offer to give them a exact location and the sample.  Whether they take the sample or not I'd log into the WDFW wolf sighting data base.  Post the photo if you can.
If WDFW wants to test the scat they can tell if it's from a wolf and if it's from more than one animal.
