Lost Pups
« on: November 30, 2015, 07:25:41 AM »
Yesterday morning, my wife left a gate open and our two young beagles took off.  The few times they've ran off before, they are usually back within a few hours.  Yesterday they took off around 0800 and haven't been seen or heard since.  We live in the Deep Creek area, North of Medical Lake.

With a low around 15 degrees last night and coyotes everywhere, it's not looking good for Hoot 'n' Annie.  They were very good and sweet dogs.  I am sure going to miss their good natured spirit and presence.  They never even got to hunt up in the mountains this winter, we were going to go yesterday for the first time :'(

Your prayers are appreciated.  If by some miracle, they are alive and well, please don't hesitate to contact me.

They don't sleep with them on and she hadn't put them on yet, they were just going out for a nature call before breakfast.

They are not wearing their collars.

Yeah, we're going to keep an eye on all the collection points for the next few days.

Any longer than that and it's impossible to imagine them surviving the coyotes and the cold.

I lost a German Shorthair about 10 years ago while hunting in the Blues.  It was cold like it is now.  I was sick, terribly sick to be honest.  Freckles was my first dog.  After I lost her, I stopped at a couple houses.  These were the closest houses to where I lost her and this was 10+ miles away. I left notes at the residences and went home.  I literally drove out of there knowing she was never to be seen again.  I received a phone call 17 days later from one of the people I left a note with.  She had wandered into their yard.  17 freaking days out in remote country, with Coyotes, Bears and Cats nearby.  I wouldn't give up yet.  There's hope for sure that your pups will return.

That blows.  I really hope those two make their way back to your place today... cold and hungry, but safe and sound.  The goof balls may just be having a heck of a run.  Do you have them M-chipped?

Hopefully so, and yes.  Thanks RJ.

If you haven't already, post on Facebook, be sure the post is set to Public, and ask people to share.  I've seen this several times in Wenatchee area, and nearly every time the dog is found and united with the owners.  I also have a friend back east who had his stolen, the coverage was so widespread on social media the "rescuer" (who grabbed his pet off the street and took him 60 miles away) contacted him and returned his pet.

Sure hope you get them back - it's a sick feeling for sure.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
