Good luck, there is good access in lower areas, still lots of snow up high, take a chainsaw with extra fuel if you are trying to get remote, the heavy snow storms knocked down lots of trees this winter.

Good luck! Are you hunting a reduced tag area?
A buddy of mine is going to get our baits started in the next couple weeks as long as he can get in where we want to be.

Made it home. Found a good spot I think, good location and a long ways off trail. Snow stopped us from plan "a" and "b" but I think it will work out.  Will be back in two weeks

I did, not easy around there. Its a perfect spot a think, was hopen to be closer to bottom. But with rules 200 is as close as I could get. It's a ridge line with thick brush by barrel, making them feel comfortable comeing in. With a creek on both sides . Thanks for all your advice and help

I keep thinking I will do a bait one of these years but when I think about money and time invested besides the work packing it all in and weigh those factors versus the success I've had spot and stalk I always decide against it. Good luck to you guys though and maybe one of these years.

The end of trip kinda sucked. Trany just wouldn't go into a gear , and of course I was at the top lol. Had to have it towed to town, and find a place since we were suppose to be headn home. Once dropped off at hotel,@ 11:30 pm, mybdad called wit a idea. Got tools out and dropped pan, dang tranny filter fell off inside. Must been from rds, been in there for a year. So we drove home, just in time to see fam wake up. Just glade I'm not still there with a bad Trany. The people in ID were all very nice and helpful, after I had been home most of day. Tow guy even called and made sure I did. Real nice people

If it isn't one thing it's another. Had a PVC bust late last night. Fixed it this morning. Inspected tires on trailer and found one that just looked like it wasn't going to last long. At tire shop getting a new one, at least it's here in town I suppose

Got two comeing into bait. My wife past up on one sat night. Got another smaller one comeing in. Ravens are annoying. I think someone set up a bait close by, what do ya do. Came to town for breakfast, been raining all night and morning. Might be last night to sit

Just curious if there are any rules about setting up bait stations close together?  :dunno:  I've never baited but would if I could. As much as I like spot and stalk, I can't hike the hills like I used too. What is the preferred amount of time to start a bait before hunting it? Just whenever it starts getting hit? Is there a law as to how long you can start your site before the season? Inquiry minds want to know. :chuckle:

Check out the Idaho Bear pamphlet, spells it out really well.  Generally I found my baits tended to take a week to get hit, however last year since I baited a spot I had baited in the past, I had bears on the bait 3 days later.  I start hunting them as soon as I get a hit.

Had a good week. Wet and cool for the most part , but was fun. My wife came up last Saturday and sat with me during the evening hunt. We saw one bear and heard another wanting to come in but just didn't.
It rained good Sunday so we just sat around trailer since she was going home that day. Saw a moose and her calf walk right through camp, that was wife's first moose experience . She went home and I sat the blind, saw nothing but Ravens and squarels.
Monday I explored. Having never been there before really, I did a lot of walking. There wasn't much for clear cuts in that area for sure. Saw turkeys and elk and deer. Also one bear
Tuesday I went fishing, didn't catch anything but enjoyed it. Then sat blind, had this bear come in again. I just felt there was a bigger one out there due to his reactions.
Wednesday I had to move trailer cause cause of all the rain, not sure I would make it out. Sat blind , saw bear again but held out.
Thursday it raind all night with lightning and thunder and half of the morning. Went to town for breakfast then went and sat blind ( most days I sat from 2-8:30) . Around 7: the same bear from most evenings came in. I watched him for a good while, I knew he wasn't the bigger bear comeing in but the big one wasn't showing himself. So once I decided to take him, darn guy made it impossible to get a shot for like 20 min. Then he walks away with no clean shot opportunity. "Oh well" I said, then he comes back right at last minute. I shoot , he spins and darts right. I hear what I think it is him fallen but wasn't sure. I gave him 40 min, then went over. Lots of blood, followed it for 50yds. He walked over a few good size logs so then called it, thinkn if he could walk over then instead of under he's in better shape then I hoped, I didn't want to push him. Slept like crap, got up and went in. Found him 20 yds from where I had stopped lol. Skined him out and packed out barrels and blind.
Was a good trip. Learned a lot for next year. Heard turkeys every morning and elk every day. A few wolf tracks .  Now I have to clean my truck and trailer before out fishing trip to coast this next weekend.
Thanks all for your advice. I love Idaho , I need to move I think. I'm hoping to make it back next month to hunt with another forum member .
