Anywhere to try on packs
« on: May 03, 2016, 04:38:19 PM »
After reading all the pack threads it got me thinking . Is there a store where you can try on these hunting packs before buying them. Like boots you need to find one that fits right and suits your needs.I've been to REI but I want to try on hunting packs but don't like the e idea of buying online.

I think just finding someone close willing to show you would be the only option for Kifaru at least. Maybe I'm wrong though

Ya, REI really doesn't carry hunting packs.  Like Duckslayer mentioned, maybe track down some guys that have the packs you may like to try and trade a cold beer or two for a meet, greet, and pack try-on.  Hell, if you can make it down my way you're more than welcome to try on my EXO 3500, or, 5500 for that matter.

I'm in the Puyallup area and have the Kifaru Duplex Hunting frame and Timberline1 bag that you could check out. I was realllly skeptical making such a purchase online too without seeing one for myself. I did it anyways though and don't regret it a bit.

REI packs just aren't in the same league. Frames feel flimsy and materials just aren't that tough. Especially for the price they want

Because these packs (Kifaru, Exo, Stone Glacier, Seek Outside) are mostly "built to order", they really aren't available in stores.  Like Duckslayer said, your best bet is to make a request on a site like this and get into contact with guys who have what you're interested in trying on.  I've got a Kifaru, Exo, and Horn Hunter, and would be willing to let anyone try one on if they wanted.

If your back down in marysville anytime give me a call and you can swing by the house. I have a kifaru and a mystery ranch you can try on. Or if I'm coming up that way again i can throw them in with me and swing by.

Duckslayer said it well. If you're ever in my neck of the woods, you're more than welcome to try on several. A couple calls, and I can nearly have then all to try. With that said, pretty hard to beat a Kifaru...lol

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like I am going to have to set up some meets with a couple people.  So anyone that has a pack that I could try on  let me know. I am 6'2 with a 38in waist.

Exo Mtn Gear will have their packs at the Full Draw Film Tours this year. And believe XXX Archery has some Kifaru Packs to check out. Sportman's Warehouse carries Eberlstock, Sitka and few others.
