GMU 437 and 448 Weyerhaeuser
« on: May 28, 2016, 04:59:50 PM »
Hey everyone! I just bought a permit from the Weyerhaeuser people in the North Cascades/ Chelan area. I want to get out and try to get a buck this year and was planning on going in the 437 and 448 gmu area. I was wondering if anybody has any tips or locations in that area. I dont want any of your "honey-hole" spots but some info would be much appreciated. I also might be willing to take the drive to GMU 251 if the bucks are worth it. Thanks everyone and good luck this year!

I live in 437 and don't hunt it because deer are far and few here, sorry you wasted your money.  :sry:

Since you have a weyco permit, and you want to hunt 437 or 448, my advice would be to hunt weyco land in those GMUs.

Concentrate on the walk in areas of 437. There are still some good bucks but like others have said the densities are low.  Another consideration is the big timber forest practices (herbicides). I think it's a limiting factor on what the area holds.  I wouldn't go so far as to say you wasted your money but it probably wasn't a great investment unless they actually make firewood areas available unlike last year.  Last year they shut down the farm after a big rain event and they had some washouts. Good luck this year.

It's gonna be a zoo in 437 this year. Make it worth your $ and get some wood out of the deal.

Did you get a key, or just walk in pass?

I bought a key last year to utilize it in the 437. It was a waste. All the gates were wide open all year from the logging that was going on and the "local boys" had those places cleaned out. Hate to be negative but I would cut some firewood and sell it to recover your money you paid for the key.

Yeah sounds like a good idea but have no use for it and nothing to haul it and sell it.

All hope is not lost- there are deer in that unit and it may take quite some effort to meet up with a good one.  A lot of walking and a lot of time investment will be required though.  It will be very hard to find a decent buck, but not impossible.

Here is a picture of a spike out in GMU 437 that my son took while camping last year:

There are nice deer in both units if you are willing to hike in and find them. Start scouting now is all I can say. I was out yesterday in 437 and found 6 deer. 2 bucks but I hiked in 5 miles to the deer.

There's definitely nice deer in those units for sure, I just wouldn't buy another key again.
