257 Weatherby Reloads
« on: May 28, 2016, 08:06:25 PM »
So I was lucky enough to pick up a Remington 700 257 Weatherby from a member on here (.257mag) thanks again. I ended up putting a Huskemaw 4-16x42 on it and it shoots awesome with the factory 120gr Partitions he gave me but at 85+ a box I would much rather reload. Wondering if any of you guys have any pet loads you like for this cal.
Deer will be the biggest game I hunt with it.
Thanks.

First 3 shots with factory ammo

That's a darn nice group.  I too am trying to find something that shoots tight for mine.  I have gotten a couple different combos to shoot right at an inch but not any better.  I even tried the 120 partitions but only right at an inch. I am looking for something more like what you have there

Just got 110 gr Accubonds to try and a box of 100 gr Barnes TTSX to try also.  I hope one of them does the trick, not a whole lot of time before October hits the way time flies.

I was mistaken.  I have tried the following so far

Barnes TSX FB 115 gr over H-1000.  65 grains got me a .835" group

Nosler 115 gr Combined Tech over 69 gr of H-1000 got me .920" group

110 gr Accubond over 59.5 gr of IMR 4350 got me .854" group

I have the 120 gr partitions loaded ready to shoot using H-1000 starting at 67gr and ladder up in .5 grains to 69 grains.

I will probably mess with seating depth on the 110 Accubonds and see where that goes.

These are the top velocities with good groups out of my Model 700 with 26" barrel:
100 gr Swift Scirocco & 100 gr Barnes TTSX with 74.5 gr IMR7828, both chrono at 3820 fps
110 gr Nosler Accubond with 73 gr IMR7828, chrono's 3620 fps

Your groups will be determined out of your own barrel.

I have had excellent luck with 76 gr. H-870....no longer available.... and a Hornady 117 gr.  About 3150 fps in a Wby Mark V 26"
It never changes, but it is always different.
