king season
« on: May 29, 2016, 08:09:18 AM »
I just got back from Sekiu for halibut. Olsons resort had paperwork from WDFW that said it's official that they get a king season July 1st to August 15th. 2 hatchery kings. They also said if you had a Canadian license and passport you could run across the straight and get 2 wild kings and 2 hatchery coho and bring them back into a us port.

Why would you need a passport? I thought you only needed that if you touched land.

Maybe a technicality that showed you could go to Canada and bring fish back. I was just happy for the resorts there. I know Van Ripers just changed hands, A local gal just signed for the By the Bay Cafe' and someone else just signed right before they reported no salmon fishing.

I don't think that is phrased correctly.  I think Washington boat limits are Washington boat limits.  Licenses or not, you can't have both limits in your boat, nor do I think you can have the Canadian limit in your boat while you travel across US waters back to the dock or ramp.  This is to prevent US fishers from taking a larger limit in US waters and claiming some or all of it was taken in Canada as a ruse.

You would have to call Olsens resort to get it from them this is just what they told me as I was checking out. I was wrong once before.

I think you have to go to a customs office and get the fish documented (for salmon).  For halibut, there was a different program where you didn't have to go ashore (for certain fishing areas).

Well it depends on your boat. Me in a 17' glasply we got beat up but for most people it was doable. no rain untilmSat then not that bad. Got into the worst rollers I've ever seen off slip point. Made me and my son pucker up tight.

Sekiu was spotty for halibut, fishing being caught but most had to work hard for limits. Some guys kicked ass but those spots were far between. Seemed like a much more fish east of Sekiu. We hit Sekiu river and worked East and did good but it was a nasty bitch water wise both thur and Friday.  As for fishing in Canadian waters I always had to radio into customs to report I was in Canadian water and from then I had proof along with my license to account for the fish I had on board. Never had an issue.
