Judging by the spring bear success, should be a pretty good season! Already seen 2, barely even been out yet.

Best of luck to all!

Himalayan and evergreen blackberries here around 500' are juuuuuuust getting ripe. Lots of areas should get ripe around August 1.

I can't wait! I've got a dilemma on my hands with a little over a week to go.
I've been shooting 154gr sst out of my 7mm mag. With excellent accuracy out to 1300 yards. Makes me very comfortable 600 yards or less. Couple years ago I killed my first bear at 629 yards but the sst came apart. Which I was very surprised to see.
I Kept with those bullets last year because accuracy was to good to give up.
But this year I've been really fighting with myself to stick with the sst or switch to the new ELD-x 162gr.  :dunno:

Either way. I'm ready to go bust some rocks this week and do some scouting before the opener. The berries at My spots should be popping off great by the opener.

I'm still planning on headin to the same place for the opener - it's right at 4800'.
Probably no berries ripe up there yet, but last year on the opener we saw 3. What's your guys experience with bears up high before the blues are ripe?

I will be backpacking into an area by stevens pass sunday and hunting at about 5000ft opening day. I have not been able to scout since the first weekend in july so not sure how the berries are doing up there now. They were little green balls early july. Last year I hit this spot mid august and berries were pretty much gone and the only bear sign was a couple weeks old. Hopefully we time it right this year. Good luck everybody!

The area I love to hunt for bear doesn't open until September 1st. My dad and uncle will both be in camp and I haven't hunted bear with my father for 9 years now. Dang time flies ya know? He will be archery hunting deer and bear. Uncle and I after just bear and cougar. I'm super stoked and this year and can't wait for bear hunting! Until then many many bear hunting videos. Good luck to everyone and stay safe.

Wait for the berries!  From what I've seen it will be early September before much is ripe.  The hellebore is still holding pretty strong this year with all the rain that is where I would be looking.

Ya it might end up just being more of a scouting trip, but I'm still gonna give it a shout up high - as I've seen em up there on the opener a couple other times. I've never tried calling for bear - work this time of year? Any input on calling at higher elevation?

Yep. Berries are getting ripe around 3000-3500. At 4K they're still green/small. At 5k they're just starting to bloom. At least in the areas I checked on Monday.

I was around 5k today, they're not ready yet.  South facing was the best, but still needs some time.

You all are making me jealous with all this August bear hunting talk! I'm going to hunt around 49drg north this fall, haven't had a chance to scout it this summer between work and my upcoming wedding, but a trophy map from bearpaw will be on the way next week.

Can't wait to see some pics of bears in the dirt coming up!
