Spoon Fork or Spork
« on: August 22, 2016, 03:56:32 PM »
Hi all, I was wondering what everyone's prefered method of getting to the bottom of a mountain house pouch with out makeing a mess is. I usually use a large spoon and fork  from the kitchen but they arn't quit long enough to keep my fingers out of the food.
Any recommendations on where i can get a nice long spork?
                Thanks

Sorry, just noticed that that is no longer available. I bought two when they had them, and they are for sale for $1 million quatloos apiece.

Optimus titanium long spoon. Can be found at times for +/- $11. Weighs virtually nothing. :twocents:

I have some longer handled GSI sporks that work ok but I typically use a long handled lexan spoon, have not found a Mountain House you can't eat with a spoon yet

I don't like to cut the bags cause I usually use them as mini trash bags and sealing it keeps any residual goop out of the pack.

I agree i like to keep the bags for garbage also, and its hard to eat ramen with a spoon. I think ill just stick with the kitchen utensils for now. Thanks

$2:  https://www.rei.com/product/895376/gsi-outdoors-pouch-spoon.

Put the Mtn. House meal in a quart Ziploc bag at home and leave the Mtn. House bag in the trash at home.  its a lot less garbage post-meal and you can heat the meal up in the Ziploc.

I saw a ... sea to summit? snow peak? I forget at Cabelas the other week that was a long folding spoon, or fork ... I forget as well.  Caught my eye.  I have a short folding titanium spoork.  Im just mindful of keeping the mountain house package opened nice and wide as I dig my paws in there to get the scraps.  I dont like cutting the bags as mention so I can keep it nice and sealed up when Im done with it.  Less crap oozing around, less odor ...

How about some fancy hunting gear manufacturer make an extension like the ones we have for socket and ratchet sets. There could be different lengths and grades of spork extensions. Then the next year some new features could be added that make last years spork extension obsolete. The hunting magazines could write gear reviews about them. And we could buy the ones that our favorite hunting TV personality agreed to market.

I have a broken site light that wont turn on and less of an opinion about jim shockey who marketed them for the company if anybody is interested. My .06 shoots lethal groups at decent yardage even though i had to do without. Guess not shooting 1/64 Minute of Angle will prevent me from picking which ventricle i am going to hit at 1200 yards.

Just saw a titanium spoon and fork ( one side is the spoon and the other the fork) at Sportsmans Warehouse.  Brand was "light my fire".  $15.  Wish I had that over my titanium spork.
