Dayton quality bull down **scored now**
« on: October 26, 2016, 05:49:17 AM »
Well, my father in law was lucky enough to draw the tag this year and I was lucky enough to hunt with him. He has already killed a 340 bull in Utah so he was good on meat for the year and set his bar pretty high for this tag. Him and his friend had scouted this unit multiple times all summer. His friend had one bull in mind with good
Character and great mass that was on the hit list. We hit the hills yesterday morning but it was pretty quiet.  The wind had pushed everything down in the deep and steep so we decided to go in and get them up.  As we pushed through the bottoms we found the elk but nothing shooter worthy.  Low 300 bulls. Great bulls for any other day of the week but not this early on in the hunt.   We glassed a few more bulls before dusk and headed back to town for dinner. This morning started off with a couple nice 6x6s moving  but nothing he wanted to shoot yet. A buddy of ours texted us and said to meet him at notellum ridge and to hurry! So we hiked back to the truck and headed to him. He had found the bull he scouted that summer. The bull was moving up a drainage to his bed with his cows. For some reason he hadn't left them yet and bachelored back up. He settled in and squeezed one off. You could hear the bullet thwack the bull.  Bull down at 845 and back with all the meat at 130. It was an awesome experience and I can't wait till i can draw a tag down there. The bull is a 7x8 possibly 8x8 with a inch point on the top of one of the eye guards. The pics don't it justice. You can't put your fingers together around the main beam anywhere.  Official ruff score from cedar river taxidermy was 386 with the broken G5 but if he had broken off and matched his right side, he'd be around 393-394.
