Got a new Grinder!
« on: October 27, 2016, 09:52:14 AM »
Finally went out with a buddy last week and bought the new Cabelas Carnivore series grinder. Ground up his buck last week and it worked great! The next thing we need to find is a good stuffer for packaging burger and what not. Any suggestions? I see a lot of 5 lbs. capacity ones for like 150-200 bucks. I feel like 5 lbs. would mean you are constantly refilling the stuffer though so like a 10-15 lbs. stuffer would be more convenient. Anyone have any off brands they have bought in the past for a better price? Or am I pretty much stuck with the 200 dollar 5 lbs stuffer from cabelas or bass pro? lol

Does this grinder not come with the sausage stuffer attachments?

They do, but they are terrible on the meat.  It sits in the tube too long and pulverizes the meat.  A stuffer is the way to go

Yeah it does come with the attachment but did not work very well for me. I have used the stuffer with some friends and they work great. I just cant believe how expensive they are. Some of them cost more than the grinder itself! lol

thank you for the answer, I have never used the stuffer on a grinder, and it don't sound like I will be wanting too.  I just know they have them usually. Good Luck! Squidward

Once you use a good stuffer, you will NEVER go back to using the grinder to stuff.

I've been a butcher for close to ten years, and can tell ya....don't stuff with a grinder!!! You did right by buying a nice grinder, crap grinders can ruin meat in a heart beat but a good stuffer can be simple and not break the bank. Have fun! Also, I'm open to  share my knowledge and advice for any meat related questions to any one.

Thank you. I tried butchering my own deer for the first time about 3 years ago and absolutely love doing it. I offer to help butcher my friends animals all the time because it is something I really enjoy doing. I usually just cut roasts, backstrap, loins and maybe a few other steaks. Now that I have this grinder I would love to try my hand at making some sausage or pepperoni.

I bought this one on ebay a few years ago and it works great.  20lb capacity for $130 shipped.  I'd only caution you that the edges are kind of sharp so cover them or file them down.

A stuffer must work like magic, because the stuffer on the cabelas grinder is super easy to use and the burger turned out great.  Not sure how you can ruin hamburger in the first place.
