I haven't hunted on the yak in a few years so I am just wondering if it is worth the money to hunt late birds this year?

Quail is good! I never find many roosters, early or late. I know some do but I haven't found those spots yet. Quail hunting in the snow on the Rez can be a total blast!!

Their season ends Dec 31st, I probably wouldn't bother this year if you haven't already bought the license. Rez has good quail hunting, if you figure out where to go. Pheasant is not so good, shot a couple three years ago but none since.

Went out over Thanksgiving. The area was pretty flooded but we still managed to pop a bunch of quail and a rooster, but just the one. Don't know what it'd be like now that it's getting colder, but quail are usually gonna be there.

Thanks for the replies,  I have been leaning toward  waiting for next year to buy the permit.  Your information helped me confirm that.

Hit the Rez yesterday. It was COLD, started the day out around 10* with about 6" of fresh snow on the ground. Quail were sticking to the really thick cover. After two unrecovered birds I decided to get picky with my shots, knocked down two over open ground. Put up 5-6 really big coveys and a dozen singles.
