Good public land near Woodland/kalama
« on: December 09, 2016, 02:16:36 PM »
I'm new to the hunting game, went out to help a buddy with elk this year and definitely caught the bug. I'm looking to hunt small game to practice until next years season starts. I'm still a bit confused on the how's and where's it public land use. I'm not quite ready or willing to invest into Weyerhaeuser land either.

I'm situated in the Kalama area, and from what I could tell the Gifford Pinchot area seems like it had a lot of access points and even parking/camping here and there. I tried to look at some local public areas but just couldn't find an acces point. I'm not looking for anyone's "hot spots," just a good direction to get moving in to enjoy nature and maybe find some small game or coyotes

Look for state Department of Natural Resources land. You can use the "Go Hunt" online map on the WDFW site to locate public land. Being in Kalama, your best bet in the future would be a Weyerhaeuser access permit.

Buy the OnXMaps app for your phone. 30$ for WA state, but well worth it. Shows all private and public a lands and lands. Great too for learning new areas to hunt.
