Two and two
« on: January 05, 2017, 06:12:57 AM »
Yesterday morning, I headed back to the same area where I called the single on Tuesday.  Walked about half a mile, and started calling.

About ten minutes in, the big male was charging in from about 400 yards, raising a cloud of snow dust!  He stopped at about 200, looking this way and that, trying to find the source of the sound.  I contemplated taking the shot, but he was looking for me, so I gave him another squeak.  He came on....dropping from view in a dip.  His next appearance was at about a hundred yards.  Where, again, he stopped.  It was his last stop.

Large male, good color and fur.

I toted him back to my rig, and dropped him off there, then continued in the opposite direction for about 300 yards. Found a likely spot, and made some noise.  In about five minutes, the smaller male came loping up, kind of behind me, to my left.  He paused at about forty yards as I shifted my rifle his way, then came on towards me.  Stopped again at 35 yards, where I made the shot.

Both were really nicely furred coyotes with shots to the chest, meaning no exit wound to sew up.  .222 Remington, 55 gr Rem. factory loads.

do you hunt mostly the east side? I have called in 3 cats and only killed one, one just flat busted me and the second, well let's just say I missed  :chuckle: 4 times and the first two shots he wasn't moving  :bash: oooh maybe I can blame it the snow blowing around or something..lol.. how long you been calling? I bet the cats are smarter on the east side because there are more people who predator hunt over there, if you make it to the west side hit me up, maybe we could see if we can find a cat for ya

I first started calling back in the 60's, with the old Burnham Brothers call.  Ordered it by mail, and it came with a record, with instructions on how to use it.  Yes, I only hunt the east side, and just don't get into bobcat country that often.  Thanks for the offer for a cat hunt.
