Talking with the school representatives in a civil manner may produce better results. You can fight this with the school, but you will almost certainly lose. Like it or not they have a legal right to question your children without your consent.

You're better of talking with your children and advising them how to handle the situation, should it occur again. They may be questioned, but they have no legal obligation to answer questions or provide information.

One attorney's advice:

Over the years, the courts have granted school officials much latitude to interview their students, question them, and ask them to write statements about events in which they may have been involved. They can also surrender your child to the police, calling you only afterwards. But school officials are not trained investigators; they ask improper and leading questions, they are not objective and frequently make mistakes.

For these reasons, it is imperative that all parents have "what if" conversations and practice with their children what to do and what to say if they are ever called into a school office or disciplinary board as the subject of a misconduct investigation.

If summoned, you should teach your children to stay calm, be respectful and remain pleasant, but explain that you (their parent) have instructed them never to write anything down and to call you before proceeding (practice this scenario with your kids!) You should also explain that resisting a school administrator in this way will likely cause your child to "flunk the attitude test" which, depending on the circumstances, could result in a lengthy detention or other punishment. Even so, a child almost never benefits from cooperating in an investigation of the child's alleged misconduct.

Finally, as a parent, place instructions in your child's school file informing the school that you wish to be present if your child is to be interviewed.

This is great advice, thanks Bob!

Public schools are VERY feminine now a days. GONE are the days where the school was run by a strong male figure who didnt tolerate bullcrap.

Everything is feelings based and psychoanalyzing based off a spreadsheet.
I'd love to see you explain that statement to my 5' 3" 115# principal of a wife...

All questions sound to be totally absurd and In no way relevant. Counselors have their doors closed during these...interrogations. However in many districts now or statewide (maybe?) they are are required to record everything within the main office, you might want to check into that. But yes, you catch more flies with honey :)

You might use it as an educational opportunity.

I have a bunch of guns, including AR's and other semi auto's, and I'm not ashamed of it.

But some folks were raised to fear a hunk of metal/wood

You might do more good by going in calmly and expalining why the 2nd amendment is so important.

I'm a teacher and have taught at Elementary and Junior High and those questions are out of line in my opinion. Especially if they don't have anything to do with the issue. Makes you wonder about their true motives or is it some kind of survey the counselors in the district are using.

Explaining to the counselor? I'd sooner explain 2A to a wooden post. They're either supporters already or have been indoctrinated by their alma mater and/or the WEA. My kids all know the Constitution by article and Amendment. I have little doubt this young man has an idea of what it's about, as well.

We're still not sure what the girl said to her parents and they, to the administration. This could have a great deal of bearing on the questioning. It seems very odd that the young woman would've reported the young man as saying simply "that's inappropriate", and having this list of questions asked by the admin of the young man. I have a feeling there may have been some embellishment along the way.

Their motives are to push a liberal agenda.
The libatards believe the government and its servants should know everything.
Clearly this is invasion of privacy and those responsible should be held accountable in a system where no one is accountable.

Are you saying schools and their employees have motives to push a liberal agenda?

One party demands you're more more accountable and the other says you should get paid more for less.  Who would you vote for if you were a teacher?

thats a pretty narrow view of each party, i doubt many people decide their vote on a single issue.  Secondly, that doesnt meant they have an agenda to push.  I'm sure some do, but saying all do is using too broad of a brush.

Trump just got elected.

The last election was Trump vs. Hillary.

If you know what's motivating people to vote, you're one of one.

I know if I didn't have my Christian roots and was in a school environment, I'd probably be a little more open to some leftist gospel

This is what happens when the government runs the school system.....

I'd make a huge stink and ask the news to do a report on it and ask for her resignation immediately.
I could care less about what anybody says..............

I'd be willing to bet it wasn't the counselor who decide to ask those questions, it is most likely a district wide protocol and a list of questioning that is asked anytime a situation like this happens.

Didn't someone else on here have a similar situation recently at a doctors office or school?  Rtspring I think?

Doesn't make it right, but I don't think the counselor is the only one to blame here.  I think the blame goes higher than that and all involved known, and their intentions should be known.
I doubt most parents know this type of questioning is being asked.
I know when I was a kid, I didn't exactly elaborate to everything I was talked about in the Office at school.  :chuckle:

Is it weird that we're complaining about school but misspelling "councelor?"
