Started your preseason preparations?
« on: February 24, 2017, 03:54:39 AM »
Who else has started their preseason preparations?  I started back in December by securing two new private properties to hunt that I know holds birds.  It's always good to do it early away from the season when it may become more competitive with other hunters vying for property.
Then, I got my decoys out and gave them a beautiful touch-up paint job.  They even look better than they did when I bought them 20 years ago.  How about you?  Have you started?  What have you done?

Client I just did some work for offered to let me hunt her land! 140 acres that has Eastern's on it on the west side! Hopefully will whack my first one this year.

I found a new storage bin for my decoys last week.  :chuckle:  Oh, also found an old dried up mouth call sitting on the work bench and gave it a rinse. Time to start digging through the stuff. Locating some private land sounds like  a good idea and it will pay off for you. I've been hunting mainly public the last couple of years and the birds have been quiet by the time I've managed to finally get out later in the season. Looks like I'll be missing the opener again this year.

I retire this week and was looking forward to the opener that I've missed the last 2 years due to the J.O.B.   But then the wife says she wants to go to Indiana to see the son, 5 (of the 12) grandkids, and the 4 great grandkids when she is off work.   :bdid:

I will go after returning, but not the opener.   :yike:

Please leave me some birds guys !      :dunno:

I'm working with my mouth calls and getting tuned up for the youth season.

Got a three pack of mouth calls and keeping one in the truck to tune up while I'm driving.  Good way to use that down time at red lights!

Ehhh.  I hunt public ground and seldom do I pack or even deploy a decoy so not much to prep for.  Walk until you strike a bird.  Set up smart.  Kill bird.  Walk back.  Eat blizzard :chuckle:

Seriously though it is time for the darn snow to go away so I can get into my area and look around.  I don't scout at all except the weekend before youth season so I can locate some birds for my youth hunters.  They are 15 and it will be their last season for youth.  Fun to see them developed as woodsman.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Make sure and pack your snow shoes unless something changes drastically.
