tanning hids with Cabela's tanning solution.
« on: March 20, 2017, 08:05:58 AM »
I picked up a bottle of tanning solution from Cabela's this weekend. just wondering if anyone has tried this stuff and how it worked for them. I'm getting ready to tan a red fox, mink and a muskrat. Thank you for taking the time. Squidward

4 part series, very easy to follow and he uses the same thing.  His hides turn out nice.

Thanks for starting this thread. I have a bottle of the same stuff I've been waiting to try on a sheep skin.

You think I could do this to my bear? I have a 6ft black bear in my freezer I haven't done anything with.

I think that same company seeks larger volumes for doing bear rugs, I'd be tempted to shoot a bear off to the tannery though, not terribly expensive, just a long wait.

I have used  tanning kits purchased from Cabelas for bear rugs and had success on both, however it was not the same product you are asking about, it was a kit that you mixed up a tanning solution with, the kit also came with oil to soften the hide after.  I think you will be fine for what you are tanning. The kits did not say they would work for bear but they worked ok for me.
