Late season public lands for west side elk
« on: March 22, 2017, 10:26:10 PM »
So I have been bow hunting elk for 8 years now and still have shot one yet, and now I'm at Montana state university, and the only time I get to come home for Washington elk season is in the late season. So if y'all know of any public land elk spot, that you don't need to pay to hunt, like walk in area or open forest service land in Western Washington and that's open in the late season, I would love to know. Thanks y'all

Change your address to Montana and go hunt. Forget Washington.

I see that you are from the Claw.
Not being a Bow hunter, I am not sure of the regs.
I used to hunt the Stampede unit with success.
Think about reviewing the regs and try to narrow down the areas based on where you will be staying during late season.
Sue, Montana my present more opportunities, but if your a student cost is an issue.

Perhaps those guys who suggested Montana can pitch in and buy you a tag.
I you narrow things down to a unit or two you may get more feedback.

Good Luck,
Rob.

How good are your hiking and hauling legs?  Do you mind deep timber?  I've got a spot I can direct you to, but you will hate me (Even if you're in good shape).

Alright CT, let ME know where I want to hate someone for a good/bad reason  :chuckle:.  I already know a couple of not bad spots.

Cheaper than coming home and paying for gas.

Unless you buy a timber company permit, not many westside late archery units to get real excited about.  Theres a few units to hunt public land, but not a real great chance for success. Start saving a money now and just stick to Montana!
