What are you using it for? If it is a hunting scope, I would say the Vortex Viper HST or PST (PST is illuminated). If you are looking for a hunting scope, I would strongly recommend at least checking out the Vortex Razor HS LR. Awesome glass, lightweight, and they have a really good hunting reticle. I just looked thru one last night, and I am sold!

I'll give my vote to the Viper PST, Viper PST Gen 2, or the Viper HST, I own the Viper PST and HST and all I have to say is you can't go wrong with either  Vortex is the only optics I use anymore, and there is a reason for that: they are not only the best IMO but also the most affordable, and most bang for your buck. The only difference between the HST and PST is the illuminated reticle, which I really like on the gun that has my PST on it, it helps a lot with seeing in darker conditions and at longer ranges, and is a great feature. The reason I said the PST Gen 2 is because that is just the upgraded version of the PST so I imagine it's pretty nice as well! Anyway, those are the 3 I'd look at, you won't be disappointed with any of them, they are all top notch products

I just picked up a leupold VX6 3-18x50 and so far really like it. Fine duplex.
I like the idea of having 3 power and out to 18 if needed.

I've got a Barska 3X9 I'll let you have for 900 bucks.

It's a little rough and fogs up some but it's a straiight out tack driver.

I really like the vortex stuff, however ihave a vx2 and a friend bought the vortex diamondback or hs. I dont remember. His had a little longer reach but hands down didnt touch the clarity of my vx. Ive always like the pst but..... also i like the thought of having low power around 3 instead of 4.5, i hunt in  all different places so needto get in close. But have the option to reach out there as needed.

You wouldn't be disappointed with the vx6, 1000 would be a good deal on one though. If its for a hunting setup that's the route I would go, lighter than most scopes of equal magnification and objective size

Zeiss Conquest or Leupold VX6.  Would be my only options, I think you would be very disappointed spending that kind of money on a Vortex.  Nightforce stuff is very nice but I feel their low light use is not up to par as the other two brands that cater more to hunters, at least that is how it was with the one nightforce scope I had.

A lot of good suggestions here. Give Bob Beck a call at MOA rifles. He has a line of Nightforce scopes based upon the SHV model. The 4-14 MOA1000 illuminated reticle is on sale for less than 1000. I have this scope and it is a fantastic piece of hardware for the money.

I'd take a hard look at a Burris XTR-II.  Some really good range for dialing.  Plus illuminated reticle, FFP, good dials etc.  Lots of good reviews on them.

I've got zeiss, meopta, lrhs, lrhsi, xtrii, swfa and leupold mk4's. For a hunting scope, the zeiss and meopta bring a lot to the table for the money and the least weight.....at the cost of non locking turrets. The SWFA is the best bang for the buck and zerostop can be made for pennies. The xtrii has the best turrets with serious click on the detents. I find it to give up a fuzz optically.....but nothing to sneeze at. The lrhs/lrhsi is my new favorite scopes.  They have killer optics, very useful reticle good vertical turret and locking windage. The x18 has a smaller eyebox than the x12.

The way I look at it, they all do something better than the other and some stuff not as good. The 4.5-14 mk4 is the only mediocre scope of the bunch and it's been used by many successfully.
