Help Needed! Habitat Restoration Project TOMORROW
« on: April 07, 2017, 02:12:06 PM »
We will be planting 1,000 shrub plugs on the Home Water Wildlife Preserve, which lies in the Wenatchee Foothills and encompasses a large part of the Sage Hills Trail system. The property is managed by Chelan PUD as mule deer winter habitat, with secondary seasonal recreational use allowed on a permitted trail April 1 ĖDec 1. The property is closed during the winter months to allow deer and other wintering wildlife a place to winter free from human disturbance.

This property is close to town, and if we get 20 volunteers out there to plant, we could have it done by lunch:tup: I would love to have our local MDF folks join us and learn about the Preserve, and Chelan PUDís efforts to manage the property for the benefit of mule deer and other wildlife. The property has burned twice recently, in 2012 and again in 2015, and has lost much of the shrub cover deer depend on for forage and cover.  Chelan PUD obtained a Mule Deer Foundation grant to purchase 1,000 shrub plugs for planting this spring on this important piece of winter range. Hope to see you on the hill Sat. April 8. Please contact me if you are planning on coming so I can make sure to have enough donuts, coffee, and shovels for everyone!  ☺

Sorry I couldn't make it. Thanks for all you do for conservation.
