Passed on a decent boar tonight.  Big body, wide ass, but every time I looked at his head I talked myself out of it.  Drew on him three times.  He was all relaxed at the bait for about 20 minutes till it got too dark to see and then was nice enough to wander on off so I could get down and leave.  :)  Once I had his right paw in the barrel and a great open quartering away angle.  Would have smoked him.  I'll post a photo tomorrow.

Nice work Machias, I'd like to do a hunt like this someday. I love watching bears also, they are fun.

You're probably right, I'm hoping one of the other guys hunting with me pops him.  He's got a beautiful coat on.  He was back several times last night along with 3 others.

had hound hunters completely blow my bait sight out on me Saturday and shoot a bear about 100 yards up the hill from my barrel. those guys piss me off. they knew my bait was in there, they came in a screwed with it and my camera the day before then run there dogs in there to get strikes off it. f&k%n lazy. guess that's what they need to do to get a bear. and they wonder why there not the most supported group by sportsman....

Nice Machias!  That looks like a shooter, but half the fun is watching all of them come in.  I look forward to following along with you.

That sucks, I happen to be a dog hunter as well, and I always steer clear of bait hunters sites out of respect.  Sadly some guys never respect their fellow hunters.  Sorry that happened to you.

You can't blame all hound hunters, and maybe you didn't mean it that way at all, obviously there are bad apples in every group. I've had other hunters sit on my baits and I've had other hunters shoot bear that my hounds were chasing. I would blame slob hunters in general, I wouldn't blame hound hunters as a group!  :twocents:

There are a lot of bad apples running hounds in that area.  I quit taking my hounds down there on account of all the dirt bags.

I am setting baits there this week, hopefully we can find some hungry bears!

I think your timing is good.  Just had a bear finally show up at a second bait.  Still have 4 on the first bait.  I think things are going to start getting better every day.  I'm going to go put another bait out over between Wallace and Avery.  Good luck!!
