Bug spray
« on: April 19, 2017, 11:04:33 AM »
For those of you that hunt the high county in Aug. for bear.  You know that the bugs can or are a problem. What type of bug spray do you use and does it help?

Thanks

Sawyer Permethrin.

Make sure you read the instructions a week or so before you leave. It doesn't work like normal bug spray.

That actually works?

I just tossed one out in the garbage.  Figured it was hokey gimmick.

Oh trust me it works fantastic.  I have sat in the swamps in Virginia hog hunting and never have skeeter one land on me even though there are thousands around me.  Yes it works very well.  I also use the permethrin on my pants for the ticks!!

Not sure Thermacell would be my exclusive high country deterrent as it has challenges in windy conditions.  I carry Ben's Wipes and have been pleased with those.  Carry a small zipper bag and you can use one wipe multiple times.  If you can find Silver Thread silk weight long jons that works good as well.  Just harder to find those these days.  As for ticks, I got turned onto Ortho Home Defense a few years ago.  So far zero ticks.  Have to plan further in advance when using it, but no longer have to search the country looking for Sawyers.  Closest Lowes or Home Depot works!  Also works great for keeping the creepy crawlies out of the house!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
