4/18 solo hunt
« on: April 19, 2017, 09:33:05 PM »
Was out in the mt before day break with the birds singing an the toms sleeping! In the distance about 120 yards out I heard some soft yelping, an BAAMMM GOBBLE GOBBLE!   I quickly close the distance an set up.  We had an outstanding conversation till they flown down an then it got dead silence😳
I was devastated.  Second season with nothing to show.  Then all of a sudden the hens creeped up is a rush looking for the excited hen, but she was nowhere to be found!    80 yards out the tom spoke again with never laying an eye on him..  I gave up on that set an moved on.  Fast forward around 1pm I'm back at the same spot for an evening hunt. As time stood still i was enjoying the creators creation an how beautyfull everything is, as I looked up the slop about 50 yards away an nice red head tom working his way down right at me.  He noticed something was wrong but he wasn't sure, as he stood behind a tree I grab my tool, told myself to stay patient an he steps out seeing his full body I squeezed an WHAACK!! An his life ended right there!!   As everything happened so fast I couldn't believe my first tag just got punched.. 👍  out of excitement I didn't no what to do next.    So I strung him up an went back to my shaded spot in the trees waiting for another.   330pm I'm telling myself I got time to smoke another.   Then it hit me I got along drive home an I need to cool down the bird so I got him gutted an the storm just came in out of nowhere.  Winds hails an poaring rain for 15 min an it passed on.   I step out an there 2 jakes within 15 yards.    No gun an no birds!  As it's about 445 an I'm back at my spot with clear sky's an sun kissing the earth.. As I'm sitting enjoying the birds sings an deer feeding, I wasn't sure if I was hearing turkeys or not. Hen walks up about 5 yards from me clucking it's way up the mt side.   An about 100 yards behind me I heard a gobble an I knew it wasn't a jake.  An it was game on.   2 toms worked there way in really fast as I tryed to get a glimps on which one was a bigger, an I seen 2 long beards so I didn't care which one I took.   Tom steps out from behind the brush an I dropped the hammer down at 17 yards again.   Tagged out!!

1st bird 7 1/2 inch beard with 5/8 Spurs.
2nd bird 91/4 beard with 3/4 Spurs.
