Dehydrator ?
« on: April 24, 2017, 08:23:27 PM »
Looking to replace my current one (older Nesco, its round and has the capability to add shelfs). I will almost exclusively be using it for drying honeycrisp apples.

The current used to work good BUT, honeycrisp's are very juicy,  so there is a lot of sticky fluid that ends up pooling in the bottom, which in turn cakes up on the heating element coils, then slowly burns and gives the fruit that burnt taste.

What do you use? Are the heating elements protected?   Thanks for any help.

I have an old American Harvest SnackMaster.  It is round and nearly 30 years old and still going strong.  I'm guessing it has dehydrated a ton of meat, fruit, veggies, etc.  I had the same problem with fruit.  I bought some of the solid plastic liners that are used for fruit rollups and stick one of those on the bottom tray.  Catches probably 99% of the goop.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I have the cabelas 10 tray and it does the job. The heating element is in the back so you don't have to worry about juice on it and it's got a clean out tray on the bottom.
