School me on mounting a scope for LRH set up
« on: April 27, 2017, 12:13:20 PM »
I am setting up a rifle like I have never done before.  In my research, I have noticed scope bases that have 20 moa slants that give you more adjustment in your scope.  I have never used one so as I set up my rifle, I was wondering if it was needed.

Rifle:  Savage Stealth 6.5 creedmoor (comes with a one piece EGW scope base)
Scope:  Likely a Nightforce SHV 5-20x56.

Should I upgrade the base to something with a 20 MOA taper?

What rings would you reccomend?

My hunting range will be limited to 500-600 yards, but it would be fun to shoot beyond that at the range.

Thanks for any input.

If using the SHV and only shooting 5-600 yards I don't think you would need tapered bases, the scope has 80 moa adj. :dunno:

That was my thought too.....I guess I can always upgrade later if necessary.  Just trying to get it set up right the first go round.  Not very knowledgeable about dialing my scopes as I have always used the hold over method to 400 yards.

Excellent news.  I am buying mine tomorrow from another member on here.  Super excited to get it mounted and start shooting this beast.

It's worth calling Andy @ hawkins and asking him if he's got the rings for that. His one piece are similar to talley but way overbuilt and come with 25moa cant built in.
