Lightweight and compact tripod. What do you use?
« on: April 30, 2017, 06:27:45 AM »
I would love some insight into what lightweight and compact tripods you are using. I'd like to upgrade my optics this year and want to be as light as possible.

Vortex High Country tripod.

been using mine for 3 or 4 years now it handles my spotting scope and camera pretty well. tested it out yesterday with my girlfriends giant almost-professional grade wildlife camera lense and she didnt seem to have any problems.

Vortex Summit SSP. Been good so far but I will admit my experience has been minimal.

I've been through a bunch of tripods to keep my big spotter and D800 600mm stable and not get a hernia. The lightest I've found that will do the task for me is the brunton carbon legs and a small giottos ball head. The weight of the manfrotto head gets it put in the small ball place sometimes. There are lighter legs, but this is as light as I've been able to afford that complete the task.

I use a mephoto that I picked up from a camera store (also on Amazon). I have been extremely happy with it. Thinking about picking up an Outdoorsmans head for it this year to get away from the ball head.

If you can swing it, I would definitely recommend the Outdoorsmans though!

Brunton carbon legs were a heck of a deal.  I have a set and wish I had one or two more.

Looking to buy a new lightweight tripod for this year. Think I narrowed it down to Outdoorsman medium or I like the Silk 634 tripod. both get good reviews.

I'm looking at the medium compact, spendy but looks great.

What made you choose the medium?
