That antler collection is truly world class, heck of a nice guy too.  The elk hunting isn't like hunting a high fenced area, you'll have to work at it if your looking for a 320+.  Biggest bull last year was about 320.  The mucks get 12 tags like us, 8 Bulls 4 cows, except they shoot 4 extra Bulls instead of cows.  Just giving you a heads up on the elk hunting, it's definetly not a slam dunk for bigger ones.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Sky...I have never had an elk tag in there...a partner of mine had one many years ago and he shot a bull that scored 304 and is in the state book. I have had two deer permits over the years. I hauled logs out of there for over 25 years. It was amazing 25 years ago the animals in there and what we would see every day at work. That changed about ten years ago and the elk herd was in trouble because the cats and bears were taking so many calves....word is that the tribes quietly solved those problems and the elk are starting to make a nice comeback but it is nothing like it was 20 years ago. They alternate the hunt every year with the tribe and this year they get to hunt elk first....that is the bad news...the good news is the deer permit holders get the heart of the rut and the tribe has to have the harder hunt for their deer. Definitely a good tag but not the slam dunk as someone else also stated it would have been in a time past....a cow should be no problem though.....Les

Boy Les I sure wished I would have seen that Green River area in it's day. I have never been in there only hunted some on the fringes.

It was an amazing area in the 70's and 80's.....I always felt privileged and it was so much fun to go to work in the shed. If I told people the numbers and quality of the animals myself and all of the loggers saw in there most would think you were lying. If only we had the cell phones with today's type of quality cameras. I usually only occasionally had some type of horrible 35mm if I had one with me at all. One time I had come off a road with a load of logs called the 5802...I had to stop and tighten my wrappers because one was hanging...I looked back up the main road to Smay Creek and out of a small patch of timber above the road this huge bull steps out in the road...by the time I left there were 7 Bulls standing in the road and they were all 6 or 7 points...the big herd bulls.....probably between 340 and 380 class...took my breath away and I will remember that until I die. They really tend to group up by size.....you would see a dozen spikes together and one time when I was coming down cougar creek along the power line I went through 17 rag horns....all 4 to 6 points but the small thin horns. Elk have a pretty amazing grouping culture. Of course those days are long gone but I could tell you a hundred stories involving deer, elk, bear, cougars and goats that were once in a lifetime for most. Like I said, the elk population took a steep dive in there but from what I have heard they are definitely on the rebound. Sky....Thanks again for the intel you helped me with last year..it was greatly appreciated.....Les

Pretty fun being in there in September and hearing 5 or 6 bulls screaming out of the same drainage. There's some mashers in there for sure. It seems that thirty years ago it was even more of Shangri-la, but man are there some amazing elk in there today.

Back in the past they let you hunt for bear and cougars in there if you got the permit does anybody know if they still do that. And if they do and for instance if my son draws the youth buck tag , and he gets to take in one person will me and him get to hunt bears and cougars or just him or neither of us thanks
Yes, they will allow you to if the season is open for the species.

Indrive trains through there and see alot of decent 5x5's.  I did see one masher this last September though.  There's plenty of elk but will have To work for a big one.

Is it walk in access only or can you drive on their road system?

You can drive in. But they won't plow snow for you, which can get thick up there in November.

Put my wife in for the watershed.  Does she have a chance with 9 points?
