Are the bears as active in mid June as late May?

If you are talking East Side, I think you'll get lucky this year. It's been a bit later and you will still have good activity. The elk calves will keep them in the timber a bit more, but the onions are still gonna be going. You should be good.

I'd say their activity level is increasing....but the hide quality is starting to go downhill.

The bear will be very active, hunt food sources that bear are actively using when you go hunting.

Plus they should be rutting really good.  The big boar I killed last weekend was pushing around a sow that was protecting her cub.  I've never seen a sow hit a boar across the face like she did.  It was quite a show.  Also look on the edges of timbered draws that are likely areas for them to hole up.

Down here the bears have been pairing up. We saw 3 pairs Weds night in a couple hours of looking. Seen a few the weekend before that.

that's where I was, first pair I saw was weekend of the 20th

That's good news thanks for the advice guys. Now I should start a thread about bears in the rain lol. Looks like it's gonna rain first three days we are going. Hopefully the forecast changes. Backpacking in the sun is more fun than the rain!
