Kenai river Reds starting in strong
« on: June 17, 2017, 05:42:25 PM »
The Reds are starting with a bang this year on the Kenai and Russian rivers in Alaska. It is going to be a great year. My son Teacherman has been racking and stacking chrome bright Sockeyes on a daily basis now. He bought a hotel in Cooper Landing Alaska called the  Alpine Inn Motel. It is right at the mouth of Kenai lake.
I've slowed down enough in my old age to finally let the game catch up to me

I was stationed at Fort Richardson 1992 - 1995. Had some great times fishing for Reds in the Russian. Hopefully I will be able to take my 9 year old son up there in the next couple years.

Kenai and the Russian have been amazing this year! Cool side note besides catching limits of reds the bear viewing has been out of this world! 8 this morning and 5 yesterday.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I might have to go visit and fish in the next year or two, how far in advance does a person need reservations?

Hi Bearpaw, the best eating is right now, The longer the fish are in the river the more they deteriorate. But with that said fishing will only get better in july and last year over 1 1/2 million fish went up river. The phone number for the Alpine Inn Motel is: (907) 595-1557. As the season progresses so do the bookings. Book early if you can. :hello:

The weir at the mouth of the Russian river had 989 fish go through it, bringing the total to 12,733 for this season, Last year at this time the count was 7,280. The measured amount of fish is just a portion of the fish heading up river. One and a half million sockeye came up the kenai last year and it looks like this year is going to be better. :)

Just let me know when you want to go. My in-laws live next to the Kenai and I have access to several boats for the rivers and an ACB boat for the deeper water/butts. I am sure we could work out a trade of some sort ;) guide trip for guide trip? :)
