Custom Shops in WA
« on: June 23, 2017, 08:47:24 AM »
Hey guys.

Mind throwing up a list of the custom gun makers in WA state that you'd recommend?

East/West doesn't matter, thanks!

Travis RBros is a great guy and builds some excellent rifles.  If I lived on the wet side of the Mtns he would be my "go to" gunsmith.  I'm in Spokane so my go to "smith" is Shawn Carlock Defensive Edge Rifles.  They're actually in Rathdrum Id. but that's just across the fence and only about 20 minutes from my driveway.

IMO, having a great gunsmith that is relatively close to your location that you can build a relationship with is priceless.  I've had builds done by three different out of state gun builders as far away as PA. and they all turned out well but after using someone local to me, I can't imagine ever not using a local smith.

Lightweight 25.06 with a 26" pipe, that's the plan...because they don't exist in factory rifles!

Are you building off an existing rifle, just looking for a re-barrel, have you assembled any of the parts and pieces or are you starting from scratch??

Ideally, I'd like to source the parts myself and have a shop put the rig together and get it trued up. Looking to keep things between $1500 and $2k

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

My two most accurate long range rifles were both built by Benchmark Barrels in Arlington.

Benchmark built .338 Edge  1/2" @ 300 yards

Depending on how "custom" or exotic you want this build to be you should be able to get pretty close to that.

You can get a brand new Rem 700 long action w/trigger for $350 delivered.  True the action $200-$225. A good custom non fluted barrel will be right around $350.  Fitting, chambering, crowning, etc. on a new barrel is probably going to run around $300 give or take.  Depending on what you have in mind for a stock it can run anywhere from a Boyds for $150 to 5-800 depending on what you want.  Most will recommend having it bed so there's another $150-$200.  Bottom metal can be as simple as a standard hinged floor plate to a detachable mag setup.  You can usually find standard BDL bottom metal used but like new condition for $100 or less.  Also, depending on if you want it bare metal or coated that'll be another $250 give or take.
