wondering what its like during modern firearm and muzzle loader season in the fossil Creek permit  area?  lots of people. I archery hunt but got the elk multi. season tag. also do u think the bulls will be more vocal during the muzzle loader season or early archery season this year?  in my experience on the east side I would say muzzle season would me more vocal but I don't have much experience on the west side and the experience I have is they r vocal as he'll the 1St 2 dayso of archery then they shut up? what's it like during muzzle season?

Did you buy the rayonier fossil creek permit? They went on sale yesterday and they are most likely gone....

Edit: just checked looks like there's 47 left...and they also raised the price this year. $435.

The only reason I would buy this again would be  if I drew the multi season. As for them being vocal, it'll depend on pressure inside the permit area. I can tell you they talk through muzzleloader season. However their responses are more to locators and then they zip up. Not so responsive to challenges by then. And as with anywhere it's hit or miss some days.

Good luck. I had the permit in 2013. Did not kill anything in there but had some close calls, that was also before it was open to muzzleloader season out there. Not sure how it's been the last couple years could be getting hammered. Lots of cuts and lots of glassing to do,  you'll be surprised how many times you'll see the same people driving around all day.

Great luck to 4 quarters camp this season.  We have chosen to move out and find some bigger, better property.  After many, many years in Fossil cr. I am sad to say that the habitat no longer fits our hunting style.  Too much logging in a short amount of time and roads everywhere. We will be camped at the old Weyerhaeuser camp slabs and hunting the lower country.  Swing in and say Hello!  Olesmokey/Fish and gang.

I'll be driving by that area during all the elk seasons out there.  What season will you be there? We were the camp there during early archery season that usually camped in the spot next to the old pond there. I'll have to stop in and say hi if I see you out there.

We will likely set our camp somewhere away from the rd/dust at the 1.5 mile flat.  We have some private (weyco/Columbia timberlands) leased land and will be focusing on those areas.  We did not buy Rayonier permits.  Fire danger will be an issue for most.  I suppose if woods are closed buying Rayonier is still an option since there are 30+ left.
