Observatory (archery) Bulls!?
« on: June 26, 2017, 10:08:49 PM »
I miraculously pulled the Observatory Bull tag this year and couldn't be more excited!  :IBCOOL:
I have spent the past few years watching the big boys pass.. trying to pick off their ladies, so this will be fun!
To get me pumped up I would love to see some pictures of bulls harvested with a stick and string on this tag!

(or if you have any advise you would be open to sharing DM me!)

I helped a buddy in there a few years ago. He ate tag soup but not for a lack of working his butt off. We had a bunch of nice bulls located and he had a shot opportunity at one of the bulls in the pics. Hope for cooler weather and no fires. He got screwed by a large fire that year which, in the end, probably cost him his bull.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I ate tag soup in there two years ago.  There is a ton of pressure in there, so where you find elk during scouting will be drastically different during season.  I myself wasn't ready for that many people in the unit and I let it get to me.  Remember public land elk hunting is 50% mental, 40% skill and 10% luck.  If I was to do it again, I would stay away from the dark timber bordering the manastash ridge.  Yes it looks great but remember everyone else is looking at the same map you are.  There are guys in tree stands in there and guys on dirt bikes running those trails in there.  Check out along the border between state and federal land in the 340 unit and get away from any roads.
