Looks like the tags that I put into the Rockfish that I catch incidentally.  I would guess it is a problem beaver that was moved from somewhere.

I'm pretty sure it's a piercing. Did you trap that beaver in King Co.? Pretty common there.

I haven't personally seen one, but I hear that it's pretty common now a days to get your Beaver pierced.  :chuckle:

Isn't it illegal to release into the wild any animal you've trapped?  :dunno:

Where did you catch it?  It is no longer illegal to relocate beavers on the westside.  New legislation passed this past session.

Loki what is a spaghetti tag ?

Just a stiff plastic tag that can be color coded or have writing on it to tell you who to contact. It looks like a piece of spaghetti. It will have a Thin 'T' on the end that goes through the skin and then turns to prevent backing out, like a clothing tag.

OK this is important.  Are there any WDFW Enforcement (Game Wardens) on here that can confirm and elaborate on this? If not yet this would be a great topic for a WDFW person to brief us on at the Rendezvous.

1. If we can relocate beavers, do we still need a permit to do it?
2. Where does WDFW want beaver relocated to?
3. Are there any areas that WDFW or WSTA assess NEEDS beaver right now?
4.  If anyone on the East-side is actually willing to PAY for live beaver transplants can we accept any compensation for the service of transplanting them?

I think there was an article in the Everett Herald a while back about USFS working with some group releasing beavers in drainages up that way.  They were putting them in places where none existed to try to establish them.   Guessing the areas they chose where uninhabited for a reason and the critters headed down stream to more friendly environments...  I might have even seen in on here when someone posted it, can't remember.  It was commicle.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

Floy T-bar Tag, also known as a spaghetti tag. Pretty common fish or wildlife tag used for different purposes. Kind of surprised it was not marked with some type of identifier, they are readily available in many colors with any wording or sequential numbering you want. We used hundreds a year for different mark recapture projects.

quick google search

"Ben Dittbrenner is a co-founder of Beavers Northwest; he has been the organizationís Executive Director since inception. Ben holds an MS in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Policy from the University at Albany, and BS degrees in Biology, and Environmental Science and Conservation from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He currently is a PhD candidate in Aquatic Ecology at the University of Washington, School of Environmental and Forest Sciences. His research there focuses on exploring non-traditional approaches to promote habitat enhancement and maintenance, increase ecosystem resilience, and reduced effects of climate change on riparian systems at multiple scales. He co-manages the Sky Beaver Project, which seeks to relocate beavers from areas where human-beaver conflicts would normally result in euthanization of the beaver to headwater riparian systems. The project assess how beaver dams and networks of beaver dams modify measures of stream water quantity and timing, such as residence time, base flow, hyporheic lateral flow, and stream temperature. Ben has managed beavers and worked with landowners to reduce conflict in a number of capacities for over 10 years. He is passionate about environmental education, creating opportunities for emerging ecologists, and providing landowners with realistic options to enable them to coexist with wildlife."

Would like to know where this 2nd chance nuisance beaver came from.  Seems odd that it was tagged without a trackable identification number.
Any info on where it came from, when/where it was released and what the end goal was?  Are they just turning them loose on someone else?
