Confirmed yesterday that it's hit the Lost River.  Here's hoping it doesn't go up the other side, Rampart Ridge.  That side of the Lost is unburnt and a great area to hike.  I was just in the area a few days before the fire.   GRRR!   >:( >:( >:(

Seems impossible but I hope the authorities catch the meathead who started this fire.
Air quality in the Methow this morning is dangerous.

Looks like the estimated containment is Oct 15. Do you think the high buck for the Pasayten will be shut down completely like they did 15-20 yrs ago?

Heard about a lot of fires all over the place, hopefully can get some rain or at least calm winds to help crews contain them.

With as bad as shape as the herd is in, It would not be a bad thing.

if the fire continues to move east, it will be a bad deal for the high hunt and the outfitters who depend on their clients to pay for winter hay.
A big early August rain storm would be reason to celebrate for us, Winthrop and the outfitters.

Irony is, while short term it will suck big time, long term the forest and the deer will be healthier if these fires are allowed to just burn (unless threatening communities).  It's the excessive intervention in fires that has lead to the huge conflagrations of the last 10+ years.  There's too much fuel load allowed to build up so rather than lots of fires in the dozens to hundreds of acres at a time you get massive 10,000-500,000+ acre fires that devastate huge areas for years rather than series of small fires that actually improve habitat.
