2" vanes. Which are you using? POLL.
« on: August 03, 2017, 08:22:21 AM »
I switched from blazers to raptors recently, but I am thinking of switching back or trying something new.
Which vanes are you running on your arrows?
Why one over the other?

Shooting blazers currently but I have a few bags of AAE Max Hunters (2") and AAE Max Stealth (3") vanes in my garage that I was going to fletch up and try them out.

I've gone to 3" Fusion X-II vanes. I 4 fletch them with 2 degree helical and they're flying great. No good reason for switching from my 2" Vane Techs but the Fusions are shooting just as good with less helical, less noise and a bit flatter.

I have heard/read that the difference between raptors and blazers are that raptors are 1 grain each heavier and many claim that they are slightly quieter.

@theleo, aren't the fusion x's designed more for crossbows?

Supposedly they're multi purpose, I just tell my arrows they're hunting vanes and they're ok with that.

I know some guys use the Flex Fletch SK vane and they're happy with them. I played with the Bohning Heat vanes and Nitro 2.2" vanes as well as the Fusions this spring/summer. The Fusions won out with using minimal helical and groups holding together better in breezy conditions. I might revisit the subject after my hunting season is over and compare the others with a heavier helical to the Fusions as they're fletched now.

AAE max hunters. I like that they're a little heavier than blazers, seems to make them more durable. Had blazers but they would get bent out of shape pretty easy.  I've been hearing great things about the stealth, thinking of giving them a try.

There really is no wrong answer.
The poll/questions are to spark conversation.
I switched to the raptors mostly for the extra 3 grains. It is probably not doing a thing, but any kind of added mental edge we can gain from small tweaks is positive IMHO.
