POI change from sea level to 5500 ft.
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:39:16 PM »
I'm here in western Wa and sight my rifles in at near sea level and am heading for a hunt that is at a minimum of 5000 ft.  What kind of elevation change in POI can I expect.  58gr bullet at 3400 fps

Thanks

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Don't know you BC but ruff figure from sea level to 5k would be probably 4-6" difference at 500yards. So not much at the closer ranges.

There are several free apps available. You punch in the data and it will give you your dopes. BallisticsArc is the free one I like to use. Shooter is probably the best one out there but costs 10 or 15 bucks.

Would need to know bc, bullet weight,  and muzzle velocity to answer your question.

I have an IPhone app called bullet drop, which adjusts for altitude. You simply enter the ballistics, the altitude, temperature and humidity and it gives you your adjustments for different yardages. It works well.

Vortex Optics has a good ballistic calculator and it's free.
