REI Half Dome 2+, any reviews

Got this email today, and was considering it. I've been thinking about a tarp shelter, but this is a pretty good deal.

Love mine. Buy the ground cover for it though!

I had an older version that I used to use all the time (before going with a pyramid style tent for multi-person trips and a bivy for solo trips.)  Very easy setup.  I also had mine out in some big time storms and it did fine.  Not the lightest option out there, but not too bad.  Great value on a good all purpose tent.

I love mine. It's a little on the big/heavy side, but an awesome tent. Super easy to set up and sturdy.

I have the 2+, it's a great tent for what it is.  I'm 6'4" and it has plenty of room.

I have the 2+ and I've used it a ton for the last seven years. I used it in Alaska last year for ten days and stuck it out inside through one of the worst five day rain and wind storms I've ever been through in the field. I thought the tent was going to get torn to shreds and blown off the mountain but it held up great.

I would like to get a lighter tent for backpack trips but the half dome has served me well.

The weight would detour me. You can get a seek outside tent with a stove for that weight. If you want to stay in that price range, REI sells the big agnes fly creek 2 at a little over 1lb. Ive seen it for $240 online.

it is the best tent, hands down in its price range. some of the weight vs similar tents, comes from better organization and more durable materials. dont fall for the ultralight trap, this is a good tent. replace the included stakes with 6 msr groundhogs, and 6 msr groundhog mini's and youll be set.

Should we post the other snow filled half dome 2+ pic, @fillthefreezer ?

Full disclosure, it's the old version. I think we determined the newest version likely would have held up better.
