Henry Single Shot rifles
« on: September 25, 2017, 02:57:57 PM »
Anybody seen these?

http://www.cabelas.com/product/HENRY-SINGLE-SHOT-CENTERFIRE-RIFLES/2503681.uts

I'm pretty intrigued by them. I love the simplicity, safety, elegance and easy cleaning of the single shot. Plus, for the vast majority of hoofed-mammal big game, I'm not really worried about fast repeat shots. Interested in anybody's thoughts and/or experience with them.

NEF and H&R are now defunct, even though they still have a website.  you can't find any new stock of any of the single shots anywhere.  the only competition in that sort of area is rossi's cheapy offerings.

i like the look of the henry rifles, one in 30-30 would be interesting to me.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I'm more of a big game bowhunter than gun hunter; lots of experience with shotguns but kind of a rifle newbie.

Am I crazy to be considering a single-shot for hunting hoofed game?

No 1, Browning Low/Hi Wall (and Winchester - same), and then if you wanna get crazy, Luxus Mdl 11, Hagn, Blaser K95... and my personal favorite, Bailey Bradshaw!  :chuckle:

I don't think a break open single shot is a bad idea at all.  You bowhunt so a simple gun might be all you need.  I have a TC Encore Pro Hunter system and they are single shot break barrels.  Only difference is you can swap out barrels for more versatility.  Everyone of the barrels is accurate.  Gun has taken a few animals...  with one shot.

I have a few Henry's too and they are all accurate and excellent guns.  They are lever guns but I'm sure the single shots will be nice.

These are awesome! If the price point was a little lower (which I'm sure it will be once the "new" wares off) I would definitely pick up one of the shotguns. My first two guns were a 10/22 and an H&R 20ga single shot. Should have never sold that shotgun. There will always be room for a single shot in my safe.

I hunt deer with a Thompson encore  single shot, it doesn't take very long to slip another round in if needed.
