Succesful unsuccesful deer hunt
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:35:34 AM »
I've had a horrible deer season this year and I'm hearing most people saying same. Usually I have no problem harvesting a mature blacktail but this year the deer are winning. I procrastinated and didn't buy my Aberdeen South weyco permit before they were sold out so I've been hunting areas im not as familiar with. I did however run into a mountain lion Friday evening and was very surprised that it stood and stared at me for quite some time. Usually when I see these animals (which is rare) it's a very brief encounter and Usually only see a flash which leaves me pondering what I just saw. I was a little shocked to see this one as I was deer hunting and I took my time and had to do a mental checklist before shooting. Is it cougar season? Yep. Do I have  tag? Yep. Do I see any kittens? Nope. All the while this cat stood perched on a stump enjoying the evening Sun starting directly at me. Mental checklist complete I fired and dropped it instantly and I had harvested my first ever mountain lion. It won't let me add pics because it says The file is too large does anyone know how to make that work?

Nice, you just did your deer hunting good deed for the year.
Seriously though congratulations on a beautiful cat. Any plans? Rug?

Very nice! Is that the stump that it was on in the first pic? Probably a good reason for no deer around! Great job! PB

Congrats on a nice mountain lion.!  I wouldn't mind trading that for a nice buck.. Most of us will never have a good chance at a cougar.

Yes that is the stump it was on, I was going to do a rug but my wife talked made into a full body mount. She said I'd regret it if I don't and after some thought she is right.

Way to go.  That surely makes up for the slow deer hunting.  Super trophy E-holic!

Cool.  Since a cat was there, probably a good amount of deer...and now it gets to stay that way.

especially if it can stay somewhat dry.  The if the temperature is good, then it would be the moisture that would be bad.

You got a great wife! Mine said the same after I got my Cougar a few years ago. I had a full body mount done by Fildalgo Taxidermy in Annacortis, WA.  :hello:  :chuckle:
