Got a new bow, what arrows?
« on: October 30, 2017, 08:17:43 AM »
I got a new hoyt carbon defiant over the weekend and need some new arrows for it. On my old bow I was shooting the black eagle carnivores and with this new bow I’d like to go back to smaller diameter shafts. I was looking at either the black eagle rampages or some full metal jackets maybe the full metal jacket injexions. What the opinions on these? One good thing about the fmj is I can get them at my local store but the rampages is have to order or drive a couple hours to get some new ones.

Do you have a sportsmans Warehouse nearby?  I have been partial to their Vital impact series.

They are a decent Arrow prefletched with 2" blazers made for them by GT but at half the retail price of the equivalent GT.  They come in a wide range of spines now, are +/- .005" straightness.  $37 per 6 including nocks and inserts and usually archery staff will cut to length and glue inserts while you wait.

They are what I used hunting this year and blew right thru the bear I shot, full pass thru plus offside front leg and was laying where I shot him fully intact so they are a tough arrow.  Only ones I have every broken were due to robin hood

For small shafts I like the Easton Axis. Been shooting them the last 6 months or so and am super happy with them.

Gold tip pro hunter if you can spend the money or the gold tip hunter xt. More importantly is to make sure you get the right spined arrow for your setup!

All good suggestions so far  Really is a great selection of quality arrows available, find one that meets your criteria and roll with it. If you feel like making a change give it a shot! Nothing wrong with buying 3-6 and shooting them until you find the best arrow for your setup.

I am currently shooting the BE Rampage and have been for awhile now. I like the price point for the tolerance and the fact they have multiple component options, so I can run them heavy out front. If you like alot of weight foreward and your using the FMJ you do end up with a pretty heavy arrow. Not that thats a bad thing, just FYI.

Is that shaft only or nocks, vanes & inserts included?

Well after thinking and looking at everything I think I’m gonna go with the fmj. I want to have a heavier arrow. Thanks for the info guys

I shoot 5mm 340 Easton FMJ's and they are pretty wicked.  I am super impressed over the past year.  They have a very flat trajectory and get incredible penetration.

Running Easton FMJ'S as well. Haven't had a single issue. Fly straight and hit hard. According to my archery block. Here's to hoping for the late seasons.
