Late Archery in GMU 204
« on: November 06, 2017, 11:54:02 AM »
I have the opportunity to hunt GMU 204 for late archery whitetails (general season). Has anyone hunted this season? And what should I expect? Should I be focused up in the heavy timber, or down in the valley floor? I have permission to be down in the fields but I don't want to waste my time if not necessary. Any info would be much appreciated.

You shouldn't have a problem getting a deer, as long as you can deal with the cold.

It can be insanely cold! Make sure your stand isn't in too much wind, I did go sitting on ridge trails. Probably won't see alot of deer I never did but there is some nice ones.

If you have permission to hunt private fields i would do that, find the trails being used in and out of the fields and set up a ground, a small propane heater can be used in the blind also, as stated it can be very cold and worse if windy.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Deer could be anywhere.  I would be looking for fresh rubs and scrapes. If you're not seeing any of that I would move on.
